Every council meeting in Wales, in plain words

Wales has 22 councils. Between them they hold hundreds of meetings a month, and decide on schools, bins, housing, roads, planning and council tax. Their papers are public but hard to follow. Local Record reads them every day and tells you, in English and Welsh, what was decided and why.

How a summary is made

Councils don't publish a word-for-word record of their meetings. Their minutes are the official account of what was decided, so Local Record only says what was decided once the minutes are out.

  1. 1

    The agenda is published

About a week before the meeting, the council publishes the agenda and the reports councillors will discuss.

  2. 2

    The meeting happens

Councillors debate and vote. Local Record records who attended.

  3. 3

    The minutes come out

Usually a few weeks later, the council publishes the minutes: the official record of what was decided.

  4. 4

    Local Record explains it

AI reads the minutes and reports and writes a short account in English and Welsh. Every point links to the document it came from.
